You will never get more audio value for under $200. One of the greatest bargains in consumer hi-fi. A
unique compact receiver/CD player that Panasonic over-built from
1999–2001 with quality features and great sound at a ridiculously
low price. Top loading MASH CD Player with 1 bit DAC, 12 wpc
amplifier, AM/FM Tuner with full antenna connections, Display clock with Timer. Aux In and Line
Out. Full-featured remote control. The silver cosmetics are
attractive, the layout is clean, the top
loading CD player, with its clear cover and a CD platform that
raises and lowers, is a work of art at this price point. A bright
blue display panel further complements the beauty. Yes, there's a
lot of plastic but the unit is sturdy and surprisingly hefty. It
came out 15 years after the glory years of the "silver era" but it
still manages to capture some of the aesthetic appeal of earlier
years, albeit with a more hi-tech look. What do you get for very
little money? A really good Panasonic
MASH CD player (with 1 bit DAC) produced at a time when Panasonic
had been making excellent CD players with few compromises. If that
wasn't enough this unit includes a magical feature which Panasonic
called the SOUND VIRTUALIZER- an integrated
circuit chip best described as a "Spatializer" which opens up the
sound-leaving mid-range sounds clear and present while adding
additional
width, depth and drama to music. The silver version of Realistic's
renowned Minimus 7
mini-speaker mates perfectly with the Panasonic's cosmetics and
offers a high level of performance in a small package. A reviewer
noted: “Little only in size, not in performance”,
was how Realistic described its Minimus-7 "Metal Cabinet Speaker
System” back in 1977. In 2021, it’s still surprisingly capable and
relevant. The
quality is evident. It’s a very well finished product . Sonically, it
is what it is. There’s no
doubt you’re listening to a tiny, bandwidth-limited transducer, . But it
has strengths, and
these are mighty. First is its blistering transient speed . You really
find yourself listening to the
rhythms of the music and enjoying these very acutely, rather than
mourning any particular lack of bass extension. This speaker’s
other talent is soundstaging; it sounds far bigger than
it really is. There’s a really good sense of depth too... the overall
result is a fun listen. .. there’s a lot to like about this classic
micro
monitor that delivers a big sound in a small space – just as its
manufacturer claimed, all those years ago…" Fully tested at Bedford Vintage Hi-Fi. Complete Owners Manual included.
